Any plans for an inquiry into the Fayette County public schools' Transportation Department apparently are on hold, at least for now.
Superintendent Tom Shelton said the proposal has been halted as a result of a lawsuit filed in September by a former Fayette school bus driver.
"It's kind of tied up right now because of the litigation, and I can't really comment on the litigation," Shelton said. "There's nothing we're doing now outside of that litigation."
Former bus driver Sherry King sued the Fayette Board of Education in Fayette Circuit Court, alleging that she was sexually harassed by another district employee, and that the school system did nothing when she filed a grievance. King also alleged that she became a target for bullying and intimidation by senior officials in the transportation department...

After reading this, I feel compelled to say "I have great faith in the Herald Leader and the Fayette County Public Schools." Whatever!
Yeah...I get that...and it's probably going to mean extra work for me. Stay tuned.
As usual, women continue to suffer in Fayette County Public Schools. That these allegations were not taken seriously is indeed disturbing for this high school English teacher! I wonder what happened when Mrs. King reported this to the woman in charge of Human Resources.

Dear Dr. Day:
Perhaps you have been told that Dr. Tom Shelton has placed a survey in each employee mail box. We are asked to tell Dr. Shelton three things FCPS is doing right and three things FCPS could do better. Most of us are, once again, reluctant to tell the truth.
We work in a subtle dictatorship here in FCPS. The survey gives the illusion that our opinions are valued. I feel the only thing that changed is the rhetoric.
You really should fill out the survey because people are listening. I filled it out and I sent a copy of it to one of the board members along with an e-mail. I was surprised when that board member called me back and talked to me for over an hour.
Folks, talk to your board members. Remember that three are up for election in 2012. You could be surprised what happens. I was.
Great! This and Steve Lane getting a $15,340 raise in September simply leaves me shaking my head.

FC employees are to afraid to talk to anyone. It would be nice if the board members would be more proactive in their schools and talking to staff. I would love to speak with a board member or our superintendent, but I love my job.
I teach at a middle school in Lexington. At our middle school, not all the teachers got the form to fill out. Figure this one out! We all got a bookmark that said our input is important and that included an address. Many at our middle school are still afraid to tell the truth.
There have been no walk throughs yet, and we find that strange, too. When we get one, we are never told how we fared. (No feedback) I still feel I teach in a police state, and if I speak up I will be punished. Maybe a Board Member will speak and vouch for the fact there well be no repraisals if we talk. I doubt it.
Wonder who in the world advised the superintendent that the investigation should be on hold while a lawsuit is pending? Don't those things take years to work their way through the courts? In the meantime, transportation staff continues to suffer great way to ensure transparency....
You really should ask some questions about Steve Lane getting reclassified from a manager to a supervisor with a $15,000+ raise to go with it. This apparently happened in July 2011, but the school board was not notified about this until November 2011. Check the recently published personnel report on the November 21, 2011 agenda if you don't believe me.
If this has gone through, is there anything the school board can do about this?
