Superintendents to Help Hire Principals

If Gov. Steve Beshear agrees, Kentucky superintendents will soon have a dramatically different role in the final selection of principals in the state’s public
schools.

Friday afternoon, the state Senate gave final passage to Senate Bill 12, accepting compromise language adopted in the House and sending the legislation to the governor for his signature.

Enactment of the bill is the culmination of legislative advocacy campaigns that go all the way back to the adoption of the Kentucky Education Reform Act of 1990. Since then, superintendents have tried to reclaim the responsibility for principal selection
that was transferred to site-based decision making councils under the reform act...
