Whitlock Accepts Two Year Extension at EKU

In a campus-wide email, EKU Board of Regents Chair Hunter Bates announced yesterday that President Doug Whitlock "has been offered and has accepted a two-year extension to his contract, thus extending his service to July 31, 2013."

Whitlock received high marks in a recent campus-wide evaluation which highlighted "high levels of trust and support both on and off campus." Dr. Stephen Portch, a former chancellor of the University of Georgia system, reported he had done similar evaluations across the nation, but had never encountered a situation in which a sitting president elicited such a universally positive response.

Bates wrote,
Despite the economic challenges we all face, I cannot think of a person I would more want at the helm of Eastern Kentucky University than our 11th president, Dr. Doug Whitlock. We are a great institution now. I can assure you that we will become even stronger under President Whitlock’s most capable leadership.
