A high school teacher facing firing over the content of a student newspaper article has been granted a public hearing by the school board.
Woodlan Junior-Senior High School teacher Amy Sorrell was put on paid leave after an opinion column questioning intolerance toward homosexuals ran in The Tomahawk, the newspaper at the northeastern Indiana school.
Sorrell was notified last week that the school board will consider canceling her contract on May first for insubordination and other reasons.
The district has claimed that the article implied that the district was intolerant and that the content was inappropriate for younger students.
The hearing will likely be held before May first.
